The Association maintains close rapport with the maritime division of the Ministry of Transport. MASA is a member of the Domestic Shipping and Licensing Board, a constituent member of the National Shipping Council and is represented in the Consultative Committees of Johor Port, Klang Port, Klang Multi Terminal, Kemaman Port, Kuantan Port, Kuching Port, Kerteh Port and Sg. Udang Port.
In addition, it is also a member of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry Cluster Working Group for Marine Transport, National Vocational Training Council, the Central Mercantile Marine Fund, Federal Light Dues Board and SIRIM Committees.
MASA participated in dialogues and meetings with both the government and private sectors on trade and shipping matters. The ministries and departments include the Economic Planning Unit of the Prime Minister’s Department, Ministry of International Trade and Industry, the Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Human Resources, Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment, the various Malaysian port authorities and operators and Marine Departments to discuss matters of mutual interest.
MASA is a founding member association of the Federation of ASEAN Shipowners’ Association (FASA), and plays an active part in the regional activities and projects. The Association is also a member of the Asian Shipowners’ Forum (ASF).
